Denim Love & Discounts

DSC_9424
I've always loved the denim on denim look. Not particularly on my stepdad or the old guy at work per say, but something a little more feminine and current. And now my love affair with flares is in full swing. They just balance out my shape.
Since I picked this outfit up from Comfort Me in Chicago, they are offering readers who stop in the boutique in the Lincoln Park area, 10% off your purchase if you mention my blog. Chicago ladies, this place really is my favorite. I just feel warm and fuzzy when I walk inside and they have so many adorable pieces!
My jewelry finished off this simple look with gold jewelry and a colorful bracelet from JewelMint. JewelMint is offering my readers 50% off your first purchase using the code: BlondeBedhead50. The code is valid until September 7, so pop over there and check out all the cute stuff!

Also, I'll be in New York City from September 6 until September 11 with miss Tieka! It's been a year and a half since I've been able to partake in some fashion week festivities, but I'll be back! I'll be at the Lucky FABB Conference, ModCloth Swap Party, FNO partaaays and other fun stuff! I'm beyond excited! EEE! Who else will be in NYC?!

Tocca Fall 2011

tocca1

Ever since Lyell closed last year, there's been a bit of a hole in my fashion-lovin' heart. Each season, it was always the collection I looked forward to seeing the most. I'm not sure exactly what the deal is, but when you go to the old Lyell website, it redirects you to the Tocca website where these photos of a new collection are presented. Whatever is going on, I'm happy about it!

Confirmed via Nylon magazine... Emma Fletcher is now the designer at Tocca. Yay! (Thanks for the link, W)

Twenty-seven Names Winter 2012

I've been trying to keep an eye on the collections from New Zealand Fashion Week as they're being shown this week but it's more difficult to find good photos since there's no typical style.com coverage of the shows. I'm super excited to see the Juliette Hogan lookbook once it's shot since the few photos from the runway show look really great. If you have a moment, check out this video of the show featuring an interview with Ms. Hogan.

OK, this is not a post about Juliette Hogan, but rather the Winter 2012 collection from Twenty-seven Names. They opted out of the traditional runway show in favor of an exhibition in the form of a party. You can see lots of behind the scenes photos of the festivities on Katherine is Awesome. I really like the navy and mustard color palette of the collection.

This weekend we were all prepared for a visit from Hurricane Irene. Fortunately all we saw was a lot of rain and wind and a few branches down in the backyard. Yesterday when the rain finally stopped we walked downtown to the Spring House Taproom to celebrate a friend's birthday. I wore my rain boots in hopes of splashing in some puddles but everything was already dried up. The wind, however, was still going full force which made for some pretty interesting photo-taking.

I was also wearing my new sunglasses from BonLook. I am blessed with good eyesight so when they offered to let me try out a pair of their glasses, at first I almost declined since I don't need to correct my vision. Then I realized they also offer nonprescription lenses and sunglasses so I gladly took them up on their offer. I'm wearing the Weekend @ Bernie's style. If you check out their site and see something that catches your eye (no pun intended!) you can use the coupon code BONLOOKGIVE to receive $10 off your purchase.

I knew this weekend would be a good one once my boyfriend helped me organize my shoe closet and my friend Erin arrived in town from Detroit. From shopping all over the city to indulging in pancakes and mimosas, I'd say our weekend was well spent.
I picked these shoes out at Lori's Shoes on Saturday morning and immediately switched out the sandals I was wearing to these ones. Leopard print makes me swoon, as you all know!
I love when Erin visits because she has such amazing style and always thinks of ways to style an outfit I might never think of. And she's not afraid to say, "No, I don't really like that. Try [insert better matching apparel item here]" Erin, I miss you already!

Lazy Lack-A-Daisy Day.

This seems the perfect dress to finish the summer and start the fall in. It's half linen, has a sweet crochet stripe near the hem, and boasts my obligatory peter pan collar.

Oh, I have some fun news to share with you on the 1st of September regarding me, Chictopia, and American Apparel! :)

We spent the day touring my mom's history in Southern California. You know, the catholic school she ran away from once and walked 2 miles toward home, her sister's first teeny house, the cemetery some of her family rests in, the drive through her mom used to get milk from, her favorite taco joint...you know, the works. It was very special to me to learn even more about her. She's the best in the west. Darn tootin'!

Things have been insane this month and starting this fall, I'm going to add more content to the blog. Outfit posting is what comes easiest to me and I love doing it and will continue to. We're moving into our first real home (which I'll let you know more about within the week!) and I can't wait to blog about all the fun things that come with that. I'll be cooking a lot more and doing everything under the sun to my house and you can bet your boots that I want to share so much of it with you...much more than just what I wear every day! I'm berry excited!

Until then, here's what I wore today.. :)

Thanks to everyone who is always so positive and encouraging to me here. Your sweet words and kind thoughts have MEANT SO MUCH TO ME. Keep it positive! :)

rolling stone.

moving stinks.  mostly when you've accidentally packed away your camera cords and don't remember which box they are in.  so this week you'll all have to bear with me while i dig through boxes, pack boxes, unpack boxes, and lug boxes from point a to point b.  tomorrow i'll have a new 'wily wiley reads,' but beyond that i can't make any promises until we are in our new place on thursday.
wishing all my fellow moving bostonians the best this week!

Whistles A/W 2011

Whistles Autumn/Winter 2011 from WHISTLES on Vimeo.

I love all the slow motion prettiness in this video featuring the fall collection from Whistles. I'd been meaning to gather some photos from the collection for a post, but I think seeing them in motion is even better.

Under the big blue sky.

Hey guys! I have almost recovered from my bout with food poisoning and enjoying the evening with my Mom. We're gearing up for a big hurrah of a weekend and trying to get nice and rested and all better so we can enjoy it fully! Let me tell you, it is HOT in LA today. 106! YOW!

Mostly can't wait for Disneyland with my whole darn family and The Little Mermaid Ride (it's kinda magical!)

Also can't wait to break from our Disney day and go eat at the Knott's Berry Farm restaurant (it's my family's tradition!)

Mt. Gretna

Earlier in the week Tom and I took part of an afternoon off (a pretty novel idea for the two of us in the middle of the week) and drove up to Mt. Gretna. We'd been there once before the first summer we moved to PA for an arts & crafts festival which was packed with all sorts of, well, arts and crafts. This time the place was a bit more subdued and reminded me of the summer resort where Baby and her family stayed in Dirty Dancing. That's a good thing, by the way. There was a little man-made lake with a diving platform built in the middle. You could rent a canoe or a paddle boat but Tom and I just opted for a walk around the edge of the lake. After our walk we treated ourselves to an early dinner at the Jigger Shop. We had the only two vegetarian options on the menu, a portabella sandwich and a hummus wrap. Or course we were still hungry after that so we added a scoop of chocolate almond and butter pecan ice cream.

What I Wore + Shop It To Me

On Wednesday, I hurried over to the 900 Shops in my 6 inch platform boots to celebrate the launch of Jessica of What I Wore's book. I must say,  Shop It To Me hosted a fun book signing and it was great to chat with everyone from Shop It To Me and pick up a copy of Jessica's book!
DSC_1056
I was really excited to see Jessica again! I met her during NYFW in February 2010 and immediately loved her. She's so accomplished, stylish and gorgeous--and down to earth to boot.
