a-line.

cardigan: j.crew
top: michael stars
flower pin: on loan from poppy and leo
skirt: j.crew (thrifted)
tights: walmart
brogues: miss me
today i went with a ladylike ensemble.  i knew i wanted to wear this springy striped skirt and i thought anchoring the outfit with navy would keep it warm and winter weather ready.  i thought adding the pink flower pin would give me that perfect punch of color and it went along with the girly look i was going for.  my skirt was one of the best thrift finds i had last year.  only three dollars and it fits like a dream.  i love the almost a-line shape.  super feminine and sweet.

style spotlight: panama hats.

i am on the search for the perfect panama hat and i will admit that it can be quite a challenge to find the perfect fit..  there is something effortlessly chic about these woven beauties.  they are popping up at all my favorite shops and i love the feminine fits and details that are everywhere these days.  i plan to find the perfect panama hat and wear it all spring and summer long to the market, the beach and on long leisurely bike rides.

what's your favorite warm weather hat?

Out in the Sun

2011Mar27_0199
I wore this to a radio show interview on Sunday. Kat and I snapped photos of our outfits before chatting about spring trends with In Her Shoes co-hosts Tiffany and Shelley. It was nice to have an excuse to dress up since I spent most of last weekend in sweats packing boxes and watching movies like "Iron Man" and "Live Free or Die Hard" by myself. Damn, I love both those movies.
Kat and I rushed to Target the Sunday the Go International Designer Collective was released and I snatched up  this Jovovich-Hawk dress (not really snatched up, but slowly perused the racks because no one else besides us were shopping the dresses!) I love Milla Jovovich and I will support any of her endeavors whether it's the movie, Fifth Element or any future clothing lines she may do. Anyways, I paired the dress with some knee highs, sky high platforms and added a hat! It's the first time I've seen so much sun since my Miami vacation and I've been dying to wear the hat out around town.

Pink Lace and Blue Crochet

2011Mar12_0157
I wore this a couple Saturdays ago after hearing it would be 41 degrees, which sounded unbelievably warm to me. Shockingly, it was not. I visited my friend Erin in the Detroit area and we visited a few of my favorite neighborhoods to shop and eat before I leave Michigan. She's my absolute favorite person to shop with and we share a mutual affinity for Mexican food, which naturally, is what we chose for dinner. Although shady, Mexicantown boasts some delicious restaurant options that are dirt cheap.
Threadsence sent me this fabulous top by Mink Pink. I paired it with some blue flats from Wanted to help chase away the last of winter blues. I was a little inspired by superman ice cream (which I googled and found through blogs this may just be a Midwest thing.) Nonetheless, I had colors in my mind and wanted to combine a couple.

You can also see I went a little lighter in my hair color, which I think always ends up looking lighter when my hair is straightened anyway. I want to figure out the best color for my hair because it makes such a difference. I might just be bored though. Throughout college, I experimented with virtually every hair color and ruined by hair in the process, but I just don't know what color is the best for me. Maybe I should have darker hair? Maybe I should try red again like I had in college? My natural color is this really flat ashy color, which would be fine if curly hair didn't make it look even more dull. It would be weird to have a different hair color with the name of my blog, but I'm willing to overlook that. Any suggestions?

See some of my blogger friends, Tick Tock Vintage and Cheetah is the New Black featured in there as well! Finally Spring!

2011Mar19_0041
I haven't had this amazing of a weekend in so long. It was a whirlwind of friends and fun, reconnecting with old ones and hanging out with newer ones this weekend. The highlight was getting to spend the weekend with my friends Courtney and Ben who came to visit from Chicago. We planned out the weekend to start with what I consider the best breakfast place in all the land: Golden Harvest, followed by  manicures, and then shopping in East Lansing and Old Town. We ended the night pretty late out with my Lansing friends at a few fun bars. I couldn't think of a better way to end one of the last two weekends I have left here. Now I need to really focus on packing up my apartment now! And thanks for all the packing advice in my last post. There were a lot of great suggestions I hadn't thought about before which will make this move a little easier on me.
I picked up these distressed jeans when I was in Miami and it was a nice enough day on Saturday to wear a light jacket over a loose tee, my favorite casual attire. I felt like I was incognito in this outfit with straight hair. Usually people can identify me from far off places because they see a huge mound of curly hair, but this past week I kept it straight, thanks to my friend Katie who did all the work.
Thanks Courtney for taking my photos!

All Things Go

2011Feb27_0113
For this outfit, I pulled together a lot of basics that add up to something a little more interesting than a typical all black ensemble I might typically reach for. I really only grabbed coffee in this outfit, but it spiced up my life that day.
I've been a little boring lately, perfectly content hanging out with myself watching movies and slowly beginning to pack for the move. It's as if my body wants to hibernate in preparation of the faster pace of life I'll have in Chicago. I can't wait to meet more and more people! And as much as I love being a slob living by myself, it might be nice to have a roommate again, especially since my roommate will be a dude--the gender I prefer to live with. This move is becoming more of a reality as I chat up my new roomie, Evan, on the phone to talk logistics and as I pack my spices and keurig k cups. Any advice on packing? I'm feeling overwhelmed already!

Party Like It's 1999

2011Feb27_0143
This outfit is actually something I styled and wore for New Years Eve. So late, I know! I wore it out to dinner to my favorite restaurant, ENSO, with a group of friends then off to a party where I hung out with some of the dudes I went on tour with last year. I met a ton of cool people, including some of the ladies below in photos. For that night, I wanted a balance of comfort and edge and I thought leather shorts and with my grey top from Threadsence were the perfect way to ring in the new year.
