Behind the Scenes: Lori's Shoes Photoshoot

I was ecstatic to model some of Lori's Shoes' new apparel and shoes this past week. Since I have hardly any experience beyond a equestrian catalog where I modeled jodhpurs and a riding jacket once as a college student, I was excited, yet nervous as I saw how many people were involved in this production. But the team at Lori's are really some of the coolest people I've met in Chicago. My boyfriend tagged along and made friends with the photographers. I thought the seven hours at the photoshoot might be his own personal hell, but he was all smiles with his Mexican beer in one hand and chips and homemade salsa in the other.

We were actually shooting at the photographer's assistant's apartment. Ed's place was decorated with vintage musical instruments, records and just a variety of interesting things to look at. It reminded me of just how boring my own place is. Even the shelves hung up in my place are still empty even though I've lived in my apartment for half a year now.

David, the photographer, was incredibly meticulous, paying special attention to every detail in his shots and made me feel really comfortable. I know how much of an Awkward Annie I can be and he was able to peel some of that away with the help of Corrie, Caroline and Jared.

Guest Editor and featured in Blowfish Shoes' E-Zine!

I had the privilege of winning a contest on Chictopia several months back and won the opportunity to serve as the guest editor of the spring issue of Fashionography, an e-zine published by Blowfish Shoes! See some of my blogger friends, Tick Tock Vintage and Cheetah is the New Black featured in there as well! I loved brainstorming feature ideas, interviewing the shoe designer and sharing some music festivals I'm pumped for this summer. Please take a look and let me know what you think! Zine Style Queen Winner!

When I was shopping for groceries last week and received the email that I won the Zine Style Queen Contest sponsored by Blowfish, I did a little dance and screeched, promptly calling attention to myself. And I've been waiting to do an e-announcement where I can make less of a fool of myself, but still convey that initial excitement..so..YIPPEE! 

As the winner, I get to do editorial work for Blowfish's new e-zine, Fashionography and a feature on Nylonmag.com! I'm beyond thrilled for this opportunity. The combination of writing about fashion, interviewing designers and other influencers while working with Blowfish is a dream! Expect some updates along the way!

Featured in Lansing NOISE

Let's be honest. I'm not the most frugal of shoppers and when I was approached to be apart of this thrift shopping challenge in Lansing, it was an actual challenge for me. The task was to spend $20 or less on a fashionable outfit by shopping at thrift stores. Along this journey, we were photographed and filmed! Nicole, Kat and I made a trip to a Goodwill in town and to my surprise, I found so many things on my wish-list for fall/winter. And my outfit only cost $14.

another andrea & a radio show!

A couple weekends ago, Andrea and I were on In Her Shoes, a local radio talk show. We were the young professionals to be represented on the show. Andrea dressed cute and comfy while I showed up looking like a bum in a grey t-shirt. Andrea has great style and looks polished whenever I see her out and about. She's the talent retention director for Lansing Economic Development Corporation and I adore her. This particular afternoon she wore a printed, flowy dress on dressed down with flippies. I believe her plans were to hang around downtown following the show since it was a Saturday and there were fun things going on downtown.

One of the hosts, Shelley, really cracks me up. I met her a couple times at Toastmasters, but I never realized how absolutely hilarious she is until the show. I wish I had her quick wit. Shelley owns Mieshel Image Consulting and she kept talking about how she had to go shopping after the show with a client at the best mall in Michigan and my favorite: Somerset. Oh her rough life!

Tiffany is the owner and president of Motion Marketing & Media, the publisher of the magazine, Capital Area Women's Lifestyle and co-host of the show. I want to be her when I grow up!

Featured in Capital Area Women's Lifestyle Magazine

Last month I was contacted to see if I was interested in being the cover story of the July issue of the Capital Area Women's Lifestyle Magazine and of course, I was excited and said yes! The mag is a monthly magazine in the greater Lansing area for women and they highlight women leaders I look up to and am inspired by such as my past boss who used to be the CEO of Girl Scouts and my most favorite news anchor!

It was such a fun experience, but odd that they'd select me as being someone interesting enough to feature. I've said this before, but I'm so happy that the community here is so accepting and encouraging of anything and everything I do. I graduated college here and wanted to get the hell out and I've slowly realized how amazing the people are here and just how many opportunities I've had to pursue creative and fun things I'm interested in.

Delightfully Fun

Delightfully Tacky featured me as the Blogger of the Moment! eee! I love Elizabeth and each girl she features. What an honor!

Yesterday, I talked about fashion blogging, style, and photography on LansingNext, a weekly online talk radio show with two pretty sweet hosts, Dan and Julielyn. Dan was the first friend I made when I stood awkwardly alone at my first Mid-Michigan Tweet up last year and I first saw Julielyn when she captivated an audience at a PRSA seminar and I thought "damn, she's cool." It was such a pleasure to be asked to go on the show, especially with those two as hosts. It airs tomorrow at noon, I believe! Listen if you can! Before I went on, Jess Knott and a few ladies of Lansing Derby Vixens talked about Lansing's new roller derby. I couldn't stop giggling while they were on and immediately wanted to be apart of this group of kiss ass ladies. I'm a bit of a wuss, but in high school I was pretty tough and cutthroat while playing powderpuff football. I think I can find it me again.

I love reading Glamour and I've witnessed some fabulous style and fabulous ladies featured on the Slaves to Fashion blog on Glamour.com. I finally worked up the courage to submit something and Kim brought it to my attention that I was featured as a best dressed reader! I am beyond ecstatic! I saw that a few of my readers left such sweet comments and I'm so appreciative of your comments and love.

My first guest blog post was published this week as well on Capital Gains, an area e-magazine that I freelance for occasionally. It's a sweet publication that focuses on job growth, innovation and economic growth in the region. The editor heard about my blog and asked if I would be willing to do a three part series as a guest blogger. Of course I said yes! And I received so many positive emails from friends and people in the community. I'm so thankful that the community I live in is so supportive. My face hurts from smiling so much yesterday :)

Yay! I wore this just a couple days ago and was contacted to be featured on this page wearing the chambray jumper pant.

Tieka is spending the night tonight and I anticipate a late night of giggling and feeling like a 12 year old girl at a sleepover. Whenever Tieka or my friend Kimmi spend the night that's what always happens. I definitely need sleep though for a full day of shopping in Detroit. I'm on a mission to find items to wear to the Chictopia conference!
