In Which It is Too Early to Write Coherently

Dear Readers,

I am writing to you bright and early this morning because I was woken by a startling realization: my fashion sense is going down a scary route called Country Farmer. Okay, yes, the heat in my dorm coming on at 6:45 am with a horrendously loud clanking has something to do with my early wake-up. And okay, yes, my burnt fingers are throbbing a bit as I type this (Why must I always investigate possible heat through touch?), but the literal wake up call that my styling sensibilities lean toward the Old MacDonald end of things makes for a much more dramatic story. So let's go with that.

Anyway, if you're a longtime reader, you know me to a certain extent. I was already halfway there. I live in plaid flannel and jeans. My hair is perpetually messy. I have a soft spot for motorcycle and/or combat boots. But oh, it gets worse.

Those shoes I was lusting after the other day? It didn't take long to realize that I didn't really want winter wedges. Inconvenient for walking across campus, and - let's face it - I tend to wobble a bit on anything taller than about an inch. What I really wanted was another pair of lace-up boots. Brown ones. Ones that didn't come up as high as my combat boots. Ones that were a bit more rugged. Ones like these:

I ordered them last night. And I'm excited about them. Real live work boots made by a company best known for selling "hand-crafted, authentic cowboy boots since 1879." Oh, the shame! But you have to admit, the details on the front are pretty damn cute. Can't you just imagine them with black tights, thick socks, and plaid flannel?

See? Farmer, farmer, farmer!

Please don't shun me.

And It Happens Again

These shoes have caught my eye in a major way.

Aesthetically pleasing, comfortable-looking, versatile, and on sale for $44.99. At Kohl's, of all places. Am seriously contemplating adding them to my winter shoe collection (let's face it - boots are the best kind of shoe), but...

Can a poor college student (me) with three pairs of boots that merit regular rotation on her feet actually drop $50 from her dwindling bank account? Not until I get a job, I think. Which I am working on.

This is part of the reason my blogging isn't as regular as it used to be. I need the funds!

Also, let it be known that I lust over shoes on a regular basis. Only, these ones have me extra excited. Is it just me, or are they kind of perfect to pair with flannel on chilly days?

Chloe Sevigny for Bass

I cannot stop thinking about these shoes. Love the many silver-tipped straps, the shiny black leather, &  the sky-high wedge that would cause me to fall considerably more often than usual. Love that they're not feminine or masculine, that they aren't casual or dressy; they are wonderfully ambiguous.

Also, I assume, expensive.

Pshh, keep your wonderfully ambiguous / assumed expensive shoes, Miss Sevigny! For the sake of my bank account, I will drool over my keyboard and write love letters blog posts on their multi-buckled glory.

Oh, how I suffer.

Roar, I'm a Shoe Bully

I like (some) avant garde shoes as much as the next girl, but today it occurred to me that the completely-out-of-my-price-range-and-therefore-bitterness-causing things are have a host of problems.

What's that you say? Am I not interpreting them correctly? Har har, I may possibly crack myself up. . .

But in all seriousness, this post stemmed from my train of thought while looking at the "Crippled Shoe." It went something like this: Dear God, someone help that poor shoe up before the heel snaps and it falls and dies! It really does look like it's on crutches or something, doesn't it? Poor, poor crippled shoe.

On a related note, these Wunderkind shoes should be mine:

I don't care that I would most likely sustain injuries from an inability to walk in these babies. Just place them by the hospital bed for me to admire and I'll be happy as a barrel of monkeys on crack. Or so I imagine.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving break! I know I did. Back to work!

Patty Does It Again

Walking past the Payless at the mall, I did a literal double-take when I saw these shoes in the window. After that, it was only a matter of two seconds of gawking before I wrapped a hand around my friend's wrist and yanked her toward the entryway of the store.

The Patricia Field label made sense. The platform, the super-high heel, and the studs certainly meshed with her fashion sensibilities, not to mention that had the shoes been a typical Payless brand I would have been absolutely shocked. The shoes look good in person; the leather is clearly faux up close, but the design appeals to me regardless. What can I say; when it comes to boots, I'm all for studs and leather. And the fact that the strap on the heel reminds me of the visor on a knight's helmet? That's just a plus.

You know with that heel height I will not be walking in these, but I still plan to try these on the next chance I get, just in case. They aren't available on the Payless site yet, but you can find them on Patricia Field's site, along with the rest of her new Payless collection (which, to be honest, isn't that impressive). And if you happen to be in the area, they are currently on sale at the Natick Collection.

Random addition: Rumi could make these absolutely killer.
